DATA + STORY = FIRST UW ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE
Data analysis is no longer the sole domain of statisticians or programmers. Today, data goes beyond numbers; it includes all the information we use to make sense of the world. We need more people, across every occupation and field, who can bridge the gap between the quantitative and qualitative, and make complex information meaningful to different audiences.

Course Curriculum and Features
This course has three goals. First, you'll learn and practice basic social science analysis using one of the most common professional data visualization software tools today — Tableau Desktop. You'll apply those methods to real-world data to produce professional presentations. Second, we'll use social science foundations of story and communication to understand how data manifests across disciplines and fields today, from TED talks to infographics to social media. Finally, you'll see how these skills matter in a professional context, producing a final presentation evaluated by UW faculty leaders with the option to become Tableau certified.
